The history of coffee: from Venice to the whole world

According to a legend, coffee was first discovered in the western world in the abandoned camps in Vienna – where the Turks used to live in up to the second half of the 17th century, before their expulsion from the city. There, coffee beans were discovered for the first time, and no one knew their origin and use.

In 1570 the Italian Prospero Alpino brought some bags of coffee from the Orient to Venice: Originally, the coffee was sold in pharmacies, but soon the drink became so popular that within a very short time “bottgehe del caffé” (cafés in English) were created. The success was so great that in 1763 there were 218 cafés in Venice.

From that point on, coffee became the daily companion of Italians. It evoked this feeling of togetherness in Italian households and so much so that it became firmly established in the culture of Italy shortly after. So, every opportunity was good to meet friends, lovers, etc. to get a coffee in the cafés.

Today, “enjoying a cup of coffee” is also always a good opportunity to meet friends or enjoy moments of peace. However, to be spoiled by more than just a small cup of coffee, buonissimo has developed many delicious creations that can be enjoyed in good company.
